The changes may have the unin- tended consequence of transferring more mortgage servicing out of the banking system to nonbank servicers. A moderation of Basel III’s treatment of MSAs would al- low smaller banks to maintain responsible credit access for consumers (i.e., selling the loan asset to replenish lendable funds) while maintaining the loan servicing relationship with the consumers. If this issue is important to you and your bank, now is the time to act.
