www.nebankers.org 20 Extraordinary Service for Extraordinary Members. COACH’S CORNER Paula Pace , The Executive Development Group W HEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR OF THE BANK today, what did you see? For many, or perhaps most of you, the general picture is most likely the same—a shared expe- rience, a shared picture. You saw the obvious furniture and fixtures, and you saw the day before you. You saw the imme- diate things that needed your attention and those things that would get done if you could just get to them. You saw a day that would require your energy, your attention, and perhaps a bit of imagination. And finally, hopefully, you saw in front of you a day that would satisfy. If this is what you saw today when you walked into the bank, I’m glad. It is as it should be. I’m curious, however. When you walked into the bank this morning, did you see beyond today? Did you see the week ahead of you? Did you see what needed to be accomplished in the next month, or two? Did you see what needed to be done to meet the needs of the bank’s immediate and not-so- distant future? And, I’m still curious, when you walked into the bank, did you have a vision of the next six months, the next year, the next five—and beyond? Are you drawn to the future, or are you tied to the present? Do you think your future lies in the next three to six months? Or, does it lie in the next years? Executive coaching is designed to look at the gestalt of coaching; it looks at the day, week, and month in front of you, the year that stretches out ahead of you, and the years in the future that need your attention. Yes, sometimes it feels like your goal in life is just to get through the day—we all have those days. And, they will pass. The work will get done. However, repeating this process day after day can be defeating. At some point, the future needs to be addressed. After all, it is a future well-planned that makes current days more productive. Think about it. If you are concerned about both your im- mediate and future growth and success, executive coaching may be what you need. Give us a call to discuss the possibili- ties.
