George Beattie, President & CEO, Nebraska Bankers Association Y OUR LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT OF BANKPAC OVER the years, and especially during this difficult year, is nothing short of incredible. In this current environ- ment, we face many unique challenges and fundrais- ing for PAC is one of them. I’m glad that so many of our members have risen to the occasion this year and joined the fight. However, there is still work to be done! Without a strong political action committee, Nebraska bankers would be at a disadvantage in the political process. Changes in the legislative environment have a significant impact on your financial institution’s franchise value and bottom line. The NBA BankPAC is an essential industry tool that helps protect our banks and our industry both in Lincoln and in Washington, D.C. The purpose of NBA BankPAC is to solicit contributions from our members for both state and national elections. In turn, NBA BankPAC uses these funds to support candidates who help promote a strong and competitive banking system. Helping elect pro-banking, pro-business representatives is our responsibility. The NBA has developed a brochure to help you and your staff better understand BankPAC, why it’s so important, and Q BankPAC Counts! — continued on page 25 Contributing to BankPAC is a great way to get involved with the NBA’s government relations efforts. Pictured here are NBA Past Chairman Matt Williams, Gothenburg State Bank; NBA Chairman-Elect Kendell Holthus, Cornerstone Bank, York; NBA Chairman Larry Marik, First National Bank of Columbus; National BankPAC Committee Chairman TomBoyle, State Bank of Countryside, Countryside, Ill.; NBA Past Chairman Leslie Andersen, Bank of Bennington; NBA Past Chairman Jeff Krejci, First State Bank, Lincoln; and ABA Chairman Art Johnson, United Bank of Michigan, Grand Rapids, Mich. Marik is presenting Boyle with a $33,000 check from the NBA’s Federal BankPAC--167 percent above ABA’s $19,725 goal for Nebraska. These funds will be used to support bank-friendly candidates at the federal level.
