September | October 2013 7 Extraordinary Service for Extraordinary Members. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE President’s Message — continued on page 8 I t has been a few short months since I an- nouncedmy retirement effective Jan. 2, 2015. As a result, your board of directors and leadership have moved for- ward with the formation of a search committee charged with seeking out and selecting my successor. The plan is to get someone in the saddle in time for me to share some of the things I have learned over the past 22 years. Certainly, the day-to-day operations of the several entities that make up the NBA are important. But more important are you, the members of the NBA. During my time here, so many of you and your predecessors have given countless hours to building and nurturing your NBA. Over those years, I have received advice and counsel from many of you, which has helped me greatly in my role with the association. I have been asked whether I am counting the days. My response is that with all that needs to be done to ensure a smooth transition I’m afraid the remaining time will go by all too quickly. My goal is to provide for a seamless transition and minimal disruption to the mission of the NBA. From time to time, I have had the occasion to look back through old bank directories. As I see the names of people long ago active with the NBA, I fondly recall the committee meetings, bank visits, and phone calls where we discussed the important issues of the day.
